I just relooked at the weather and they are saying scattered storms Tuesday/Wednesday. Not a strong looking possibility to say the least...

I know, I figured we would have been down a while ago. But he, no complaints here!

so yesterday the garbage disposal decided to just stop working....we tried clearing it of any stuff that might be blocking it (tried all sorts of ideas)....in the end, it just doesnt work any more.....so we have to replace it. First step, find a new one (best idea is to buy the same model so all the parts are the same)....most of the local stores say...they will have one in in about 2 weeks or so (well, my kitchen does not have a sink right now, and discombobulating the old one, hubby turned the power off, so no lights no micro no stove...2 weeks will NOT work for me)... so find a local store that has one...
step one, check
step two pick it up (and sit in traffic since a big accident happened near the store).
step three read instructions and start putting new one together....while doing this step make sure to ask for help (even though the guy on the video is doing it solo) and make sure to say unkind things to your help.
step two check, step three CHECK
step four your help leaves you to do it alone (this is where hubby is at right now rewatching videos of handymen who are capable of putting it in all by themselves. these would also be the men who can change a flat tires without using pneumatic tools to remove the lug nuts <---this is not the category my husband falls into!).
so fun for the weekend....might get it installed before my next birthday.

That is the joy of living in an apartment right now. If that happens we call the office and they have someone take care of it. Works a lot easier that way. Though some day that will be me. Trying to replace it and figure out how to do it... Looking forward to it! Hopefully he gets it installed soon. And videos are awesome for helping to get things sorted out and showing you how to do something.

well after watching a bunch more vids, he finally determined that the black rubber thing (the part you see in the sink) was hindering putting it in...so he removed it from the sink and attached it on the disposer....which helped a great deal (we were able to final to get it situated so that it could be locked in place).
yeah, the joys of home ownership...well, I have been doing this stuff since....well loooong before I owned a home, helped friends put plumbing stuff in (toilets, shower parts) as well as replacing stuff here before I became the owner (toilets, faucets, etc)...so this wasnt the first time....but hope its the last appliance I have to replace here!

I've helped my dad install a lot of that stuff before, which is good. Will definitely come in handy when we do get a home. Wish things were easier to install or repair but they keep making things break sooner and harder to repair. It is pretty annoying but that is how they make more money...

yep, I remember when I was a kid things used to last...having appliances that were 20 years old was nothing --and expected, now having a car that is over 5 years old...or a tv or appliance that is not brand new ....just doesnt happen. Things now are built to be replaced as soon as the warranty expires. Sad to say.

It is sad and irritating. I hate that business model but I don't know what will be done about it. It makes the most money for the companies so they won't change. Sadly...

I miss the japanese way of doing things---you do your best and if its not then you are very unhappy that you failed (and you then, get fired). None of this 'pay me for my mere presence at my employment place'. THAT has to end...the generation I grew up in was the work hard and ask what else you can do generation, this new one annoys the old people (like me) to no end!

...and I fear it will not end well.

The generations now in days are so hooked on having to succeed at everything. They can't fathom failure and when the do fail, many of them shut down. That is the thing I love about science. When you do fail, you don't actually fail. You simply didn't get the result you thought you would. But it is still a result, and thus still good! Hard time getting them to understand that though... We learn best through failure.

most of the time that is correct. some folks dont learn and keep repeating the same mistake over and over again.

so this morning was getting ready to log off my computer and go to bed...when outside I heard a rather loud BOOM! (the sound of a transformer blowing), the lights dimmed...and then.....everything
went
dark!
power outage!!! its not raining...its not windy, heck its not even 75 outside! so hubby wakes up (our fan went off)...and jumps on a computer to shut it down before the ups runs out of juice.....sadly our server went down without us (and with it my ability to quickly shut the other computers I was on down....error--you can not save to that, its not there----ARGH!)
no reason for the blow out, and we were able to get the rest of the crew shut down ...with some extra effort, only lost a bit of data that I was working on when the power went out (easily redone as I had it written down on PAPER

)
hubby took a shower in the dark (and made it before the hot water ran out), and we took some time to use the canned air to blow out the dust from some of the computers.

power came back on in about 2 hours.....I really hate living here sometimes.....and hubby has a really good reason for a back up power generator (though after having the power out in the kitchen 2 times now in the last few days, I am getting really good at resetting clocks

)
and after another hour or so of sneezing (ok, dusting computers is not my top fun activity, really) I was finally able to go to bed at about 8:30 this morning....though not doing really well on the ~2 hours of sleep I sorta got. So I am with my hubby on the back up generator.

That is crazy. Really wonder why it blew, but they probably won't tell you. I know my dad used the tornado a couple of years ago to justify buying a whole house generator. They haven't had to use it yet, but they do have it just in case, which is good.

I really should open up my PC and dust it out. Probably has some dust in it since electronics collect dust like crazy.

you might have a whole family of dust bunnies in there....my case is open (it tends to over heat otherwise)...so I think I had the whole clan of dust bunnies, though I do try to dust it out about once a month. Our other computers are easy open lids (they are all plexiglas so its easy to just pick up the top) so its easy to evict the bunnies.

finally got some sleep...oy, the postal person was really late today (always seems to be on monday) and I had to wait up 'cause I had a registered letter/package....and now at 9pm I have to make dinner (yeah thats what happens when I get to my nap late

)

Mine is pretty easy to open. Remove a couple of screws at the back and the side panel slides right off. Just need to disconnect everything and do it.

I laid down and took a nap yesterday. Meant to take a 30 minute nap. Turned into an hour and a half. Whoops.

I feel like this thread and the last post win thread is starting to intersect...

yeah, naps are wonderful things...guess you body decided it really needed a bit more than you wanted to give it....almost my nap time now

Ya it did. I could go for a nap right now as well but I have to wait for this guy to call me back. So I really can't even shower, which means I stink right now cause I just ran 8 miles a couple hours ago... Should have showered before I called, just didn't think I would be waiting over an hour for him to call me back...

Yup, guess we will be the winners!
